The Center for Research Computing's

Spatial Studies Lab

Visualization at the Intersection of Time and Space

About the Lab

The Spatial Studies Lab consists of a cross-functional team of Scholars, GIS Specialists, Designers, and Developers working together to build online geospatial platforms. The Lab combines vector, raster, and other forms of data at the intersection of time and space in order to create web experiences and insights. Projects created by the Lab generally fall in the category of geospatial dashboards and platforms that describe cities, sites, and events over time, as they existed and as they have come to be imagined. These online UIs are clustered around areas of particular interest to scholars at Rice University, e.g., Public HeathHouston, the conversion of Space and Time, the levantCarta initiative, and the Glassell Map Project located at the Baker Institute.
